When Schools Refuse Admission: Your Child’s Rights and Homeschooling Options

Two laws protect your child: the RPwD Act 2016 (autism is a recognised disability; schools must provide inclusive education and reasonable accommodation) and the RTE Act 2009 (no child aged 6–14 can be denied admission). If a school refuses verbally, politely ask for the refusal in writing — most won’t give it, and that question alone changes conversations. Parents in Hyderabad have also submitted letters (with disability certificate, doctor’s notes, and evidence of rejection) to the District Collector and District Education Officer. Meanwhile, homeschooling with a structured, school-like routine at home is a legitimate bridge many families use — several parents here run “home school setups” on therapist guidance while continuing to pursue admission.
