My child suddenly makes many random sounds. Should I worry?

Speech & communication

Vocalisations can temporarily increase with excitement, sensory needs, stress, illness or changes in routine. Record when they occur, what happened beforehand and what helps. Continue supportive therapy without punishment. Review with the child’s clinician if the change is persistent, distressing, accompanied by pain or regression, or interferes substantially with daily life.

Rather than assuming sugar, screens or songs are the cause, change one factor at a time and use the observation record when seeking professional advice.

Safety note: This summarises community experience for general awareness and is not medical advice. Every child is different. Confirm diet, testing, supplements, medication and treatment decisions with your child’s doctor or a suitably qualified professional. Never stop prescribed medication without the prescribing doctor.
