Does behaviour therapy build the same skills as Theory of Mind work?

Asked by AutDHD Editorial

Speech & communication

Not automatically. Foundational abilities such as shared attention, pointing, imitation, communication and following functional instructions may support later social learning. Community answers highlighted role-play, personalised picture cards, video modelling and social stories. Generalisation requires practice in real situations with parents, teachers and peers; completing puzzles alone does not demonstrate social understanding.

Safety note: This summarises community experience for general awareness and is not medical advice. Every child is different. Confirm diet, testing, supplements, medication and treatment decisions with your child’s doctor or a suitably qualified professional. Never stop prescribed medication without the prescribing doctor.
