Are Dairy and Eggs Bad for Autistic Children? Safe Protein and Calcium Alternatives

There is no strong scientific evidence that all autistic children must avoid dairy or eggs. Many autistic children eat both daily with no issues. Remove a food only if your child has a diagnosed allergy or you notice a clear, repeatable change in behaviour or digestion after eating it — ideally confirmed with your paediatrician, not just a WhatsApp forward. If you do need alternatives, calcium can come from ragi, sesame, leafy greens, nuts and seeds; protein from dals, soya, paneer alternatives, and meats. A food-intolerance work-up ordered by a doctor is more reliable than blanket elimination diets, which can cause nutritional gaps in already-picky eaters.
