What is Theory of Mind and why does it matter?

Asked by AutDHD Editorial

Speech & communication

Theory of Mind is the ability to understand that other people can have thoughts, feelings, beliefs, intentions and perspectives different from our own. It supports predicting reactions, understanding emotions, conversation, friendship and navigating social situations. Some autistic children find these skills challenging, but support should remain respectful and practical rather than training children to hide autistic traits.

Confirm diet, testing, supplements, medication and treatment decisions with your child’s doctor or a suitably qualified professional. Never stop prescribed medication without the prescribing doctor.
